Award-winning actress Edie Falco opened up about her real-life experiences as a mom compared to her on-screen character, Carmela Soprano, in a recent interview with Us Weekly. Falco discussed her role as Wanda in the upcoming family comedy, I’ll Be Right There, where she plays a woman navigating life after her kids have grown up and her divorce is final.
Directed by Brendon Walsh, the film follows Wanda as she balances caring for her sick mother and pregnant daughter while trying to establish her own identity in this new chapter of life. Falco praised the script for its realistic dialogue and portrayal of everyday people going through life’s challenges.
Falco shared some of her favorite on-set moments with co-stars Kayli Carter and Jeannie Berlin, describing their chemistry as effortless and fun. She admitted to drawing from her own experiences as a mom of teenagers for her role and even found herself unintentionally incorporating aspects of her past characters, like mob wife Carmela from The Sopranos.
Despite her success in television and film, Falco expressed her love for acting and her desire to continue performing in various mediums. She recently completed an Off-Broadway play, Pre-Existing Condition, and is set to reprise her role in the Nurse Jackie reboot.
As I’ll Be Right There hits theaters and on-demand platforms, Falco’s advice for overcoming personal hardships resonates with her character’s journey in the film. She emphasizes the importance of accepting change and facing challenges head-on, a sentiment that reflects the themes of the heartwarming comedy.
