A 39-year-old gunman from Jordan killed three Israeli civilians at the Allenby Bridge border crossing in the West Bank before being shot dead by security forces on Sunday. This was the first such attack at the border with Jordan since October 7, when Hamas carried out an assault on southern Israel, leading to the escalation of the war in Gaza. The attack occurred in a commercial cargo area under Israeli control where Jordanian trucks unload cargo entering the West Bank. The assailant, a truck driver from the Huwaitat tribe in southern Jordan, was identified by family members. The Israeli military stated that the terrorist opened fire on the Israeli security forces before being eliminated. Jordanian authorities have closed the crossing and are investigating the incident. The Israeli manager of the crossing reported that three workers were shot dead at close range by the driver from Jordan. Israel and Jordan have a peace treaty and close security ties, with dozens of trailers crossing daily from Jordan to supply goods to both the West Bank and Israeli markets. Israeli President Isaac Herzog called for an investigation to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
