Walz highlighted his and Vice President Kamala Harris’ efforts in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, referencing Harris’ role in officiating same-sex marriages and his own work as a high school teacher supporting the school’s first gay-straight alliance club. He reiterated the need for allies to stand up for marginalized communities during challenging times.
In addition to critiquing Vance and former President Donald Trump, Walz emphasized the importance of having a plan rather than relying on hope in the political arena. He outlined his and Harris’ proposed policies, including lowering taxes for working families, enacting family and medical leave, and passing the Equality Act to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
