California Wildfire Spreading: A Look at the Impact

California’s Line Fire in San Bernardino County continues to burn thousands of acres, reaching 26,426 acres with 5% containment as of Tuesday. The fire was discovered last Thursday and is spreading towards the northeast. Over 36,000 structures are threatened, and thousands have been evacuated. The fire has also affected areas of the San Bernardino National Forest. A Damage Inspection Team has been ordered, with over 1,700 personnel fighting the blaze. Evacuation orders have been issued for communities in Green Valley Lake, Cedar Glen, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, and Valley of Enchantment. In addition, the Airport Fire in Trabuco Canyon, Orange County, has burned over 5,000 acres with 0% containment, believed to have been started by a crew doing fire prevention work. The Davis Fire south of Reno, Nevada, has also burned 5,000 acres, leading to school closures and evacuations. The hot, dry weather in California and Nevada has allowed the fires to spread quickly, prompting a significant response from firefighting teams.
