The first debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is set to take place on Tuesday night at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The rules for the debate include microphones only being turned on when it’s each candidate’s turn to speak, no studio audience, and no talking to staff or bringing notes. The debate will start at 9 p.m. ET and can be watched on ABC, ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu. The moderators will be David Muir and Linsey Davis, with a pre-debate special anchored by Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce, and Rachel Scott. Candidates must meet certain requirements, including filing a Statement of Candidacy with the FEC and appearing on enough state ballots to attain a majority of electoral votes. Additionally, candidates must reach at least 15% support in four national polls conducted by particular organizations between Aug. 1 and Sept. 3, 2024. The debate will be livestreamed on USA TODAY’s channel, and USA TODAY reporter Gabe Hauari will cover the event.
