Florida Officials Capture 8-foot Alligator From Front Lawn

Florida deputies and a wildlife official successfully wrangled an 8-foot alligator that showed up uninvited at a home in Bonita Springs. Video footage shows the alligator being surrounded and captured by the deputies and wildlife officer, although the specific method used to restrain the creature is not shown. The alligator was then safely relocated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The video posted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has garnered over 20,000 views on Facebook.

Alligators are a common sight in Florida, with potential for conflict increasing due to the state’s population growth and the popularity of waterfront homes and water-related activities. Despite this, serious injuries from alligators are rare. To stay safe, the commission advises against feeding alligators, keeping a safe distance if encountering one, leashing pets near water, and swimming only in designated areas during the day.

The commission operates a toll-free nuisance alligator hotline for residents to report any alligator-related concerns. In such cases, a contracted nuisance alligator trapper will be dispatched to resolve the situation. Alligators have inhabited Florida’s natural water habitats for centuries, and while encounters are common, following safety guidelines can help prevent conflicts with these reptiles.
