Massachusetts State Police recruit Enrique Delgado-Garcia tragically passed away at the age of 25 after suffering a medical crisis during a defensive tactics training exercise at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree. Delgado-Garcia became unresponsive during the exercise and was immediately taken to the hospital, where he later died.
His mother expressed shock and devastation, questioning why the training exercise was so rough and resulted in such severe injuries that ultimately led to her son’s death. Authorities have not specified the details of the exercise that Delgado-Garcia was participating in.
Delgado-Garcia, a Worcester resident, had joined the training program in April and was set to graduate on October 9. Colleagues and state officials mourned his loss, highlighting his dedication and compassion. Governor Maura Healey expressed her heartbreak over the tragedy and extended condolences to Delgado-Garcia’s family and the State Police community.
The incident is under review, with the Worcester County District Attorney’s office investigating. The State Police Association of Massachusetts has deferred questions to the state police department, emphasizing their commitment to supporting Delgado-Garcia’s loved ones during this difficult time. The community is left grieving the loss of a promising young recruit who was known for his commitment to service.
