Westfield on Weekends is set to unveil their latest exhibit, “Journey Stories: The Puerto Rican Experience,” at the Creative Arts Center on Monday, Sept. 16. This exhibit is part of a series that began in 2023 and aims to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the extensive Puerto Rican population in Westfield.
The exhibit will feature artwork that tells the stories of Puerto Ricans in Westfield and their experiences. A reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 4-7 p.m. where artists will be present to discuss their work and interact with attendees.
Kathi Bradford, director of the Creative Arts Center, explained that this exhibit is part of a larger initiative to showcase the diversity of immigrant communities in Westfield. The previous installations in the series focused on why people immigrated to the United States and showcased the different faces of Westfield through photography.
The “Journey Stories” series, in collaboration with the Smithsonian, aims to bring attention to the rich cultural heritage of Westfield and its residents. Through art and storytelling, the exhibit seeks to honor the traditions and experiences of Puerto Ricans in the community.
Overall, “Journey Stories: The Puerto Rican Experience” promises to be a meaningful and educational experience for visitors, as well as a celebration of the Hispanic community in Westfield. The exhibit will be open to the public starting on Monday, Sept. 16 and will run for a limited time.
