New York officials released new details about an unidentified homicide victim, known as “Asian Doe,” whose skeletal remains were found in 2011 in Long Island near where the Gilgo Beach serial killings occurred. The victim was determined to be a biological male of Asian descent between 17 and 23 years old and may have identified as a woman based on the clothing worn at the time of death.
New forensic images show the victim as both male and female, with investigators using genetic genealogy to determine the victim’s likely ethnicity as Southern Chinese. Officials are seeking help from the public to identify the victim, who may have worked as a sex worker and spent time in New York City before their death. The victim suffered a violent death from blunt force trauma, with remains found on Ocean Parkway at least five years after death.
Authorities have not charged anyone in connection with the victim’s murder, but Rex Heuermann has been accused of killing other women related to the case. Heuermann, a former New York architect, has been charged with the murders of six women, including some sex workers. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Gilgo Beach serial killings spanned from the early 1990s to 2011, with at least 11 bodies recovered along Ocean Parkway. The case has raised questions about the safety of sex workers and remains unresolved, with investigators continuing to seek information on identifying the victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
