Authorities in Kentucky are continuing their search for Joseph Couch, who is accused of opening fire on vehicles on a highway, injuring five people. The shooting incident occurred on September 7, with Couch shooting at motorists on Interstate 75 in southeastern Kentucky, hitting a dozen vehicles.
The manhunt for Couch has stretched into its 11th day, with law enforcement officials focusing on surrounding communities after initially searching a vast forested area. Kentucky State Police will lead the search effort in the Daniel Boone National Forest but will withdraw personnel from the forest to increase their presence in nearby residential areas.
Following the shooting, police received over 400 tips pointing to areas outside of the forest. State and local law enforcement are increasing patrols on roadways and enhancing security at schools, bus routes, and sporting events to reassure the community and ensure public safety.
Couch has been named a fugitive by the U.S. Marshals Service, and a $35,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. He has been charged with attempted murder and assault in the incident, and authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that may lead to his capture.
