Hungary remains on high alert for potential flooding as Storm Boris continues to head south. Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony has warned that the city could face the biggest flood of the decade, with Danube water levels expected to crest at 8.5 metres near the city. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has announced that flood defence measures have been taken along 540 kilometres of Hungary’s rivers, with a third-degree alert in place along 200 kilometres. Orbán has also approved the opening of an emergency reservoir along the Leitha river. Traffic restrictions have been implemented in the Gyor-Moson-Sopron and Komárom-Esztergom counties along the Danube, as well as in the Danube bend area. International train services between Hungary and Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany will also be affected by the flooding.
