Mother tragically dies while participating in marshmallow-eating competition

Officials are investigating the death of Natalie Buss, a 37-year-old mother who choked to death during a marshmallow-eating contest at a rugby fundraiser in Beddau, Wales. Buss consumed dozens of pink and white marshmallows in 60 seconds before collapsing and being pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics performing CPR. She had won the contest as a prize after participating in a bingo game at the event. Buss, an accountant from Church Village, was a mother of two children, one of whom was a member of the rugby team. The Beddau RFC rugby club expressed their devastation at the loss of a beloved family member.

The DJ and children’s entertainer who hosted the contest, known as “Roly Poly,” is under investigation by Wales officials. It was revealed at a pre-inquest hearing that the DJ has since decided to stop introducing the game to people. South Wales assistant coroner Gavin Knox indicated that a jury might be required for the inquest as Buss’ death is considered suspicious and could have wider ramifications for the public. The incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive for investigation, and a full inquest may take at least another six months to begin due to a backlog in jury inquests. Knox assured the family that a date for the inquest will be provided as soon as possible.
