Cal Fire worker arrested on suspicion of igniting 5 wildfires


A Cal Fire employee, Robert Hernandez, was arrested for starting five wildfires in California between August and September. He was charged with six felonies, including arson of forest land and arson during a state of emergency. Hernandez was arrested at a fire station in Willits, CA and is being held on a $2 million bail. Cal Fire has arrested 91 people for arson since September 1 and 923 people since 2016. The fires Hernandez is suspected of starting burned less than an acre of wildland thanks to quick resident and fire suppression responses. Cal Fire extended their thanks to the communities for their vigilance leading to Hernandez’s apprehension. Hernandez will appear in court again on September 24th.
