Rick’s Place is offering free peer grief support groups for youth aged 5-18 and their caregivers. Established in 2007 in memory of Rick Thorpe, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11, the program aims to provide a space for young people and their families to remember loved ones and avoid feelings of isolation. Participants from Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut can join the program at no cost by emailing info@ricksplacema.org or calling 413-279-2010.
Pathlight will be hosting a virtual adult family care information session on September 24, providing details about caring for adult family members with intellectual or developmental disabilities at home. The Hartsbrook School will be hosting a series of workshops on “Caring for Sick Children” on September 28, October 26, and November 2. The workshops will focus on providing gentle care during times of illness using natural treatments. Participants can register for the series or individual workshops at a cost of $75 for all three or $30 for each workshop.
Palmer will be offering virtual cancer support groups led by oncology social worker Camille St. Onge for patients, families, and caregivers facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The groups meet monthly and are funded by the Walk of Champions. To participate, contact St. Onge at 413-239-7239 or email cstomagin@gmail.com.
Additional support groups available include NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups, NAMI Family Support Groups, Michael J. Dias Foundation support group, and various others to help individuals dealing with substance use disorder, grief, stroke, narcotics addiction, and suicide loss. Special programs are also available for black and brown communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with mental health conditions.
