Political scientist Dr. Jan Philipp Thomeczek believes that despite the close results between the SPD and AfD, a federal election before next year is unlikely. However, the FDP’s poor performance has raised the possibility of alternative coalition formations in the German Parliament.
The SPD faces challenges despite their success, with uncertainty surrounding potential coalition partners in Brandenburg. Talks are already underway, with the SPD potentially forming a government with the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance.
