Newly Launched Boston Restaurant Recognized as one of New York Times’ Top 50 Nationwide

Somaek in Boston, a Korean restaurant that opened in March, has been recognized as one of the New York Times 50 best restaurants in the United States. The Times’ annual search for the country’s best dining establishments showcased a range of culinary experiences, from dishes served in rural Virginia to tasting menus in San Francisco’s finest restaurants. Somaek, which presents Korean home cooking in all its magnificence, offers a variety of dishes such as chilled pork belly, seared beef, and stir-fried squid with rice cakes, along with a master class in banchan.

Chef Jamie Bissonnette, who fell in love with Korean cuisine while cooking with his mother-in-law, Soon Han, pays tribute to this food at Somaek. The restaurant, located at 11 Temple Place in Downtown Boston, also features a vinyl listening bar and a sushi speakeasy downstairs. The menu includes traditional Korean fare, a convivial cocktail menu with low-ABV libations, and the popular Somaek drink made with soju and beer.

While Somaek was the only Massachusetts restaurant on the NYT’s list, other New England eateries like The Shipwright’s Daughter in Mystic, Connecticut; The Alna Store in Maine; and Gift Horse in Providence, Rhode Island also made the cut. Somaek is open Monday through Saturday and invites guests to enjoy a taste of authentic Korean cuisine in the heart of Boston.
