In preseason action, rookie goalie Brandon Bussi has struggled, allowing six goals in two losses for the Bruins. Competing to be the No. 1 goalie in the absence of Jeremy Swayman, Bussi faced challenges with traffic in front of him and on breakaways. While he acknowledged the need to clean up rebounds, coach Jim Montgomery was unimpressed with the team’s performance as a whole, noting a lack of physicality and emotion after early penalties.
Meanwhile, Joonas Korpisalo, also vying for a top goalie spot, has yet to allow a goal in his limited action. Preseason debuts for David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha were less than stellar, with both players finishing with a -3 in the game. Nikita Zadorov had a quiet debut in his Bruins uniform, registering one hit and taking a penalty.
With the return of McAvoy and Pastrnak to the lineup, the need for players to wear captain’s letters was reduced, with Zacha being the only player needing an addition for the game. Overall, the Bruins will look to improve their team game and individual efforts as they continue through the preseason.
