One leader being recognized is Edward W. Caisse III, head of the Holyoke Safe Neighborhood Initiative (HSNI) at the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office. He helps high-risk inmates reenter their communities successfully, focusing on education and mentorship to prevent reoffending.
Caisse, who grew up in poverty, is passionate about helping those from broken or low-income homes. He started his career with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 and became head of HSNI in 2006. Alongside his wife, he runs community events and volunteer programs, investing approximately 20 hours a week to support youth and families facing social issues like poverty and substance abuse.
One of HSNI’s key events is an annual back-to-school celebration where attendees receive needed services and build relationships with community members. Caisse emphasizes the importance of taking action to create sustainable change in local communities, no matter how overwhelming the social issues may seem.
