Russian drones have carried out two consecutive attacks on a hospital in Sumy, Ukraine, killing at least eight people. The first attack occurred on Saturday morning, followed by a second attack as patients and staff were evacuating the premises. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russia used Shahed drones in the attacks, injuring eleven people. The city of Sumy is located near the Russian border, where Ukraine launched an offensive to create a buffer zone.
Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down 69 of 73 Russian drones overnight, along with two missiles. Meanwhile, in Russia, air defenses shot down Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod and Kursk regions. Zelenskyy recently visited the United States to seek support for Ukraine, discussing his “victory plan” with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The plan aims to strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position with Russia and end the war on Kyiv’s terms.
The international community has condemned the attacks on the hospital and pledged further military aid to Ukraine. Biden announced an additional $8 billion in aid, including Joint Standoff Weapon munitions to enhance Ukraine’s strike capabilities. As the conflict continues to escalate, efforts are being made to support Ukraine’s defense and push for diplomatic solutions to end the violence.
