Max Jones to make preseason debut for Bruins in absence of injured captain Matt Poitras

Boston Bruins forwards Brad Marchand and Matt Poitras will not be making the trip to Quebec City for the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Kings. Marchand is still battling illness and Poitras is day-to-day with an injury. Marchand left Tuesday’s game after the first period while Poitras took a heavy check late in Sunday’s game against Philadelphia.

While Marchand is expected to make the opening roster, Poitras’ chances are uncertain due to his injury. Elias Lindholm is expected to play his second preseason game as he returns from an earlier injury. Max Jones and Jeffrey Viel, who have missed time with undisclosed injuries, are listed on the travel roster for the game.

The Bruins have 13 forwards listed for the game, but only 12 will play. Several players, including Tyler Johnson, Cole Koepke, and Riley Tufte, are competing for the final bottom-six roster spots. The team will dress six of the seven defensemen listed for the game, including Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy.

Joonas Korpisalo is likely to start in goal, potentially his final tuneup before the opening night next Tuesday. The Bruins are preparing for their upcoming season with various players nursing injuries and illnesses, but are focused on finalizing their roster ahead of the regular season.
