Kristina Guerrero, former E! News host, opens up about her breast cancer battle – NBC New York

Former E! News host Kristina Guerrero was shocked to receive a diagnosis of a rare form of breast cancer after a routine mammogram in late 2022. Despite not having a family history of the disease, she was diligent about screening. The cancer, angiosarcoma, is aggressive and rare, accounting for only 0.1% to 0.2% of all breast cancers.

Guerrero underwent a lumpectomy to remove the cancerous mass but had to eventually have a mastectomy to be sure all the cancer was removed. She then underwent six weeks of radiation treatment. The experience inspired her to create a short film called “Walking Through Molasses” to document her journey with breast cancer.

As a Hispanic woman, Guerrero also highlights the disparities in breast cancer diagnoses among women of color. Hispanic and Latina women are less likely to receive a breast cancer diagnosis but more likely to have aggressive forms at a younger age. Guerrero urges women, especially women of color, to prioritize regular mammogram screenings and early detection.

Despite her ordeal, Guerrero is now cancer-free and emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about breast cancer. She encourages everyone to get regular screenings and be proactive about their health, as breast cancer can happen to anyone. Guerrero’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and the impact of breast cancer on women of color.
