Man from Massachusetts charged with operating under the influence after causing a crash that injured workers

Pedro Campos, a 32-year-old man from Wellesley Hills, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation in connection to a crash that seriously injured two construction workers on the Massachusetts Turnpike on Saturday. The crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. in a construction zone on the westbound side of the Turnpike at the Beacon Street overpass in Boston.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Campos’ Nissan Pathfinder drove into the work zone and struck an elevated scissor lift with the workers on board. Boston EMS transported the injured workers to local hospitals for treatment. Campos is scheduled for arraignment at the Brighton District Court on Monday.

In order to ensure the safety of motorists, investigators, and highway workers, all westbound lanes were closed until shortly before 4 a.m. when the scene was cleared. State police confirmed the charges against Campos and emphasized the importance of following construction zone safety protocols to prevent such incidents. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Campos’ actions have resulted in serious consequences, highlighting the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of obeying traffic laws, especially in construction zones. The injured workers are receiving medical care for their injuries, while Campos faces legal repercussions for his role in the crash.
