Employees at two Boston Hilton hotels initiate indefinite strike

About 600 workers at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport and Hilton Boston Park Plaza hotels in Boston have announced an open-ended strike, escalating contract disputes that have been ongoing for several months. The workers, represented by the union UNITE HERE Local 26, decided to strike after failed negotiations with the hotels over issues such as unsustainable workloads and rising living costs.

The workers, who are part of a larger group of hotel employees in Boston whose contracts expired on August 31st, have been without a contract since then. Multiple strikes have already taken place throughout the city in recent weeks, with the union giving hotels a deadline of October 4th to reach an agreement.

In a statement, the union emphasized that the workers are prepared to fight for a fair contract that will allow them to provide for their families and retire with dignity. The strike is part of a larger movement within the hospitality industry, with over 4,000 hotel workers in other cities such as Honolulu, San Diego, and San Francisco also on strike at Hilton properties.

The union has released a travel guide for visitors planning trips during the strike, highlighting alternative hotels that are not affected by the strike. The workers are hoping that their action will show the hotel companies that they are serious about their demands and lead to a resolution in the ongoing contract negotiations.
