Tetiana Lozova, a prima ballerina with the National Ballet of Ukraine, is currently on tour in the United States with the company, including a stop at Boston’s Shubert Theatre on Oct. 10. Despite facing challenges in her home country, including blackouts and bombings, Lozova remains dedicated to her art and sees the tour as an opportunity to showcase Ukrainian culture and raise money for charity.
The tour program includes well-known works from the classical ballet repertoire, such as “La Bayadere” and “Don Quixote,” as well as lesser-known pieces like “The Forest Song.” Lozova will be performing an adagio from “The Forest Song” with her husband, Yaroslav Tkachuk, a piece that holds significant cultural importance for the company.
Lozova hopes that the tour will help to shift the focus from Ukraine’s war-torn image to its rich cultural heritage. She believes that it is important for Ukrainian artists to continue enriching their country’s culture and sharing it with the world.
A portion of ticket sales from the tour will go to a charity working in Ukraine to improve the lives of families affected by the conflict. Despite the challenges she faces, Lozova finds joy in every rehearsal and performance, expressing her love for ballet as a means to experience multiple lives in one.
