Shams Charania to Depart The Athletic, Named Successor to Adrian Wojnarowski

ESPN has added a new NBA insider to its roster with the announcement that Shams Charania will be joining the network. Charania made the announcement on his social media account, expressing his excitement to be part of ESPN and serve the sports audience worldwide.

Charania had previously been with The Athletic since 2018 and prior to that, he was with Yahoo Sports, where he had a friendly rivalry with Adrian Wojnarowski. Wojnarowski moved to ESPN in 2017, and the two continued their competition in breaking NBA news. However, Wojnarowski recently announced his departure from ESPN to become the general manager for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program.

The move to hire Charania by ESPN comes after the network laid off senior writer Zach Lowe and saw the departure of other prominent names such as Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. Charania had been rumored to replace Wojnarowski, which now leaves The Athletic in need of finding a replacement for him.

Charania’s addition to the ESPN team is sure to bring a fresh perspective and insider knowledge to the network’s NBA coverage. Fans can expect to see Charania contribute to ESPN’s already strong lineup of sports analysts and insiders as they continue to provide comprehensive coverage of the NBA and sports news worldwide.
