Cherished Boston thrift store Boomerangs to reopen in Central Square

Boomerangs, a beloved Boston thrift shop that closed all of its locations earlier this year, is making a comeback. The nonprofit More Than Words has announced plans to reopen the Central Square storefront in Cambridge, which will be named Boomerangs by More Than Words. The new store is expected to open by December 1, providing customers with the same sense of community that existed at Boomerangs for years. More Than Words, which supports at-risk youth, also operates bookstores in Boston’s South End and Waltham and may revive the former Jamaica Plain location. Boomerangs closed its thrift stores in June due to financial losses, with the decision being made to ensure Fenway Health’s continued care for the community. Founded in the mid-1990s, Boomerangs is an award-winning family of thrift stores that provided funding to AIDS Action and became part of Fenway’s Public Health Division. The reopening of Boomerangs will not only bring back a beloved community space but will also support More Than Words’ program that helps young adults in foster care, court, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. This new chapter for Boomerangs symbolizes both a return to its roots and an opportunity to continue supporting important causes in the community.
