WalletHub data reveals New England cities as the safest in the US

Three New England cities have been ranked among the safest in the nation, with South Burlington, Vermont, taking the top spot on WalletHub’s list. The analysis, published on October 7, also listed Casper, Wyoming, Warwick, Rhode Island, Burlington, Vermont, and Boise, Idaho in the top five. Analyst Chip Lupo attributed the success of these cities to their emphasis on financial security, low crime rates, high insurance coverage, and proactive initiatives to reduce homelessness.

WalletHub compared 182 cities based on home and community safety, natural disaster risk, and financial safety, with South Burlington scoring high in road safety and low unemployment rates. Warwick was noted for having the lowest number of murders and assaults per capita, as well as a low risk of hail, wildfires, tornadoes, and earthquakes. Boston, though ranking 33rd overall, faced challenges such as identity theft.

The study also highlighted measures such as underemployment rates, uninsured population, and financial well-being in determining safety rankings. South Burlington’s low pedestrian fatality rates and Warwick’s resilience against natural disasters contributed to their high safety scores. In contrast, Memphis ranked last, and New Haven represented the lowest-ranking New England city at 94th.

Overall, New England cities showed a strong commitment to safety and community well-being, with success factors like financial security, low crime rates, and proactive safety measures. The study’s findings shed light on the importance of financial stability in promoting overall safety and well-being in cities across the country.
