The Arizona Democratic party closed a field office in Tempe after being targeted in three shootings in three weeks. No injuries were reported as the shootings happened late at night when the office was empty. Candidates and staffers have relocated to undisclosed locations. Concerns of violence during the 2024 election cycle have increased, with threats or violence reported in other areas as well, including two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump. In July, a gunman fired at Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, leaving one dead and two injured. In August, a Virginia man was arrested for threatening Vice President Kamala Harris. In September, another attempt on Trump’s life was thwarted at a golf course in Florida. Most recently, in Oklahoma, an Afghan national was charged with planning a terrorist attack on Election Day on behalf of ISIS. These incidents highlight the potentially dangerous political climate in the United States. Police are investigating the shootings at the Democratic field office in Tempe, and the candidates affected have taken precautions to ensure their safety while continuing their campaign work.
