One person killed in Nashville shooting following Tennessee State Homecoming parade

Gunfire broke out near Tennessee State University in Nashville, leaving ten people shot and one person, identified as 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson, dead. Victims ranged from critical to minor injuries, with the youngest being a 12-year-old girl. Evidence suggests that two groups fired shots from opposite sides of the street, but no arrests have been made. Two injured individuals are refusing to cooperate with authorities and are suspected to have been directly involved in the shooting.

The incident occurred on the last day of homecoming week for TSU, with a parade taking place on the same street earlier in the day. The football game was also happening at the time of the shooting. The street had just opened to traffic before the gunfire started. Police officers and firefighters were present at the time, with some NFD employees acting as first responders after the shooting.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell expressed his sadness and anger over the violence, noting that what was a joyous event in the morning turned into a tragic situation due to senseless violence. Authorities are determined to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, emphasizing the need to stop such gun violence in the community.
