Former Red Sox players, Mookie Betts and Kiké Hernández, had a strong performance for the Dodgers in a 9-0 victory over the Mets in Game 1 of the NLCS. Betts broke an 0-for-22 postseason slump with a three-run double and one run. Hernández contributed with two hits and two runs. Game 2 is scheduled for Monday at 4:08 p.m. eastern time.
Betts’ double in the eighth inning was the highlight of the game, clearing the bases and extending the Dodgers’ lead to 9-0. This was also the only extra-base hit for either team in Game 1. Betts had previously broken his slump in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Padres, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs. Since then, he has been performing well, hitting .313 with two home runs, one double, and six RBIs in four games.
After his slump, Betts received words of encouragement from former Red Sox teammate David Ortiz, which helped him regain his confidence. Betts mentioned that Ortiz’s advice to “just go smile” had a positive impact on him. With this strong performance in the NLCS, Betts will look to continue his success and help the Dodgers advance further in the playoffs.
