Vem Miller, a 49-year-old man from Las Vegas, was arrested ahead of a rally by former President Donald Trump in California. He was found with loaded firearms, multiple passports with different names, and an unregistered vehicle at a checkpoint in Coachella Valley. Despite the weapons, Trump was never in danger, according to law enforcement officials. This incident comes after two separate assassination attempts against Trump in the past, one in Palm Beach and another near Butler, Pennsylvania.
Miller is a registered Republican who previously ran for state Assembly in Nevada. He holds a master’s degree from UCLA and hosts a podcast called “Blood Money” on the American Happens Network, which focuses on topics of corruption and conspiracy. His vehicle had a homemade license plate, a practice associated with the far-right sovereign citizens movement.
Miller was charged with possession of a loaded firearm and high-capacity magazine by local officials. He was released on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 2. The Secret Service confirmed that he does not face federal charges.
Trump was not present at the rally when Miller was arrested. The Secret Service assessed that the incident did not impact protective operations and that Trump was not in danger. Local law enforcement had set up inner and outer security perimeters at the event, and Miller was stopped at a checkpoint within the inner perimeter.
