Nearly eight years after the murders of teens Liberty “Libby” German and Abigail “Abby” Williams in Delphi, Indiana, a suspect, Richard Allen, is finally facing trial. Known as the Delphi Murders, the case has captured national attention due to evidence found on German’s phone, including photos and video of the suspect. The girls were last seen alive on February 13, 2017, and their bodies were discovered the next day. Police released a photo, audio, and sketches of the suspect based on German’s phone recordings, leading to multiple interviews and suspects over the years. In October 2022, Allen was arrested after a shell casing at the scene matched his pistol. He was initially accused of kidnapping and charged with two counts of murder. Prosecutors later dropped additional kidnapping charges. His trial has faced delays and is now set to run from October 14 to November 15, with jury selection beginning on October 14. Allen’s lawyers have claimed that the murders were part of a ritualistic sacrifice by a white nationalist cult, but the judge has barred mention of this in court. German and Williams were active in their community, and a softball park was named after them due to their love for the sport. The trial of Richard Allen will be closely watched as the Delphi community seeks justice for the tragic deaths of Libby and Abby.
