A 36-year-old man from Malden was arrested in Boston’s Theater District on Monday for multiple firearms charges following a report of a “large fight.” Officers responded to a call for shots fired inside a parking garage and located the suspect’s vehicle. The passenger, later identified as Davon Olaes, fled the scene and threw a firearm before being apprehended by police.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found .22 caliber ammunition and a DB9 Diamondback firearm. While no injured victims were found in the parking garage, ballistic evidence and spent shell casings were recovered. Olaes was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. The arrest comes amid a rise in crime in the Boston Common area.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address gun violence and illegal firearms possession. Olaes was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court, emphasizing the seriousness with which authorities are treating the issue of gun-related crimes.
