FDNY Shuts Down ‘Death Trap’ Haunting in Hollis

The New York City Fire Department recently shut down a haunted house called “A Haunting in Hollis” in Queens due to multiple safety violations. The FDNY Commissioner described the house as a “death trap” due to violations such as illegally constructed staircases, blocked exit routes, and removed fireproofing materials. The haunted house, which has been in business since 2002, had plans to reopen by October 18th after addressing the safety concerns raised by the authorities. The business issued refunds for tickets and is working to meet the safety requirements set by the Department of Buildings and FDNY. However, a lawsuit was filed against the haunted house by Solainne Moncero-Tannis, who allegedly broke both ankles during a visit to the house in 2023. As of Tuesday evening, the haunted house’s ticket website showed no future availability for purchase. The haunted house appeared on a 2021 episode of “The Nick Cannon Show” and has been a popular Halloween destination, but the safety violations led to its closure by the FDNY.
