Their 13-year-old son, Yevhenii, and Anastasiia’s mother, Tatiana Novitnia, remain missing. The storm has claimed the lives of at least 228 people, with many more still unaccounted for.
The Segen family had found refuge in North Carolina after a perilous journey through multiple countries. They settled in the mountains near the South Toe River, where they built a life centered around family, work, and the simple joys of nature. When Helene struck, the destruction was devastating, with the family home completely obliterated by the floodwaters.
In the aftermath, Gindinova has been tirelessly searching for her missing relatives, along with various search teams from different states. Despite the grim reality of the situation, she clings to hope that Yevhenii will be found alive.
