Former Massachusetts high-school star signs with Celtics

The Boston Celtics have signed former Massachusetts high-school basketball standout Hason Ward to an Exhibit 10 contract, as confirmed by his agency. Ward, a 6-foot-9 forward from St. Thomas, Barbados, gained attention for his shot-blocking abilities during his time at Springfield Central High School, where he put up impressive stats, including blocking 22 shots in a single game.

Ward then went on to play college basketball, spending three years at Virginia Commonwealth University before transferring to Iowa State for his final two years. Last season, Ward came off the bench for Iowa State, averaging 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game as the team made it to the Sweet 16.

While Ward faces tough competition to secure a spot on the Celtics’ roster, the Exhibit 10 contract allows the team to retain his G League rights if they waive him in the coming days. Whether he ends up in Boston or with their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, Ward is determined to continue his development in the New England area.

Having previously signed with the Sacramento Kings for the 2024 Summer League, Ward’s signing with the Celtics marks a significant milestone in his basketball career. Fans are excited to see how his talent will continue to grow in the NBA ranks, with hopes of witnessing his impact on the court for the defending champions.
