In last Sunday’s loss to the Texans, the Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye wasn’t the only standout player. Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt commended starting center Ben Brown, who was signed off the Raiders’ practice squad just days before the game. Van Pelt praised Brown’s ability to quickly pick up the plays and perform well on such short notice.
Brown, who comes from a long line of Ole Miss football players, shared some insights into his football journey. He recalled playing with his dad as a young child, reaching the state championship with his brother in high school, and celebrating a win against Tennessee in college. Brown’s family history with Ole Miss made the school special to him, and he eventually fulfilled his dream of playing there.
If he weren’t a football player, Brown said he might have pursued physical therapy. He also revealed influences in his life, like his grandfather who played for the Green Bay Packers, and his love for Star Wars and country music.
As a new member of the Patriots, Brown expressed his appreciation for the team’s welcoming atmosphere and the cooler weather in New England compared to his home state of Mississippi. He also shared a hidden talent of playing the trombone in middle school and high school, and his interest in learning to play the guitar. Brown’s adaptability and multi-talented nature make him a promising addition to the Patriots’ roster.
