Hyundai is recalling nearly 1,600 Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to the risk of fuel leaks and fires. The recall affects SUVs from the 2019 through 2024 model years. The company warns owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs are made.
The issue stems from a faulty pressure relief device that can break and lead to a hydrogen leak, posing a fire hazard even while the SUVs are parked. Hyundai has no reports of fires globally, but as a precautionary measure, it advises owners to keep their vehicles outside.
Starting on December 10, owners will receive notification letters, and dealers will replace the pressure release devices to address the safety concern. The automaker emphasizes that the SUVs can still be driven but should be parked outside until the necessary repairs are completed.
Hyundai is undertaking this recall to ensure the safety of its customers and is providing resources for owners with questions or concerns. They can visit the Hyundai website or contact customer service for assistance. The company remains committed to addressing potential safety issues promptly and efficiently to protect its customers and maintain their trust in the brand.
