Zayn Malik has canceled the first concert and the entire U.S. leg of his Stairway to the Sky tour following the tragic death of former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne. The tour was set to kick off in San Francisco on October 23, but Malik decided to postpone the dates to January due to the heartbreaking loss. This was Malik’s first solo tour following the release of his fourth studio album, Room Under the Stairs, in May.
Liam Payne, who died on October 16 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, was a former member of One Direction along with Malik. The two musicians had experienced several ups and downs over the years, including Malik’s departure from the band in 2015 to pursue his solo career. The remaining members of One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
Malik expressed his appreciation for the understanding and support of his fans as he postponed the tour, promising to reschedule the dates soon.
