The New England Patriots linebacker Joshua Uche, who turned down a lucrative offer from another team to stay with the Patriots in the offseason, is now garnering trade interest from multiple teams in the NFL. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Detroit Lions are among the teams looking to acquire Uche ahead of the league’s trade deadline on November 5.
Uche, who signed a one-year, $3 million contract extension with the Patriots in March, had a breakout season in 2022 with 11.5 sacks. Despite a decline in production since then, Uche expressed his loyalty to the Patriots and rookie head coach Jerod Mayo, stating that there is nowhere else he’d rather be than in New England.
With his playing time decreasing in favor of other linebackers, and on an expiring contract, it is speculated that the Patriots could entertain offers for Uche before the trade deadline. While Uche’s commitment to the team and his past performance are commendable, the Patriots may look to capitalize on his trade value to address other needs on the roster.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Patriots will have to weigh their options and decide whether to part ways with Uche or keep him on the team for the remainder of the season. The interest from other teams indicates that Uche’s services are in demand, making him a potential trade asset for the Patriots as they navigate the remainder of the season.
