Briefing on Ukraine War: Kharkiv Faces Power Outages Following Russian Attacks

Russian strikes on Kharkiv resulted in nine people being wounded and part of the city experiencing a power outage, local officials confirmed. The targets included residential buildings, garages, service stations, houses, and cars. Kharkiv, a city in northeast Ukraine, is frequently attacked by Russian forces due to its proximity to the Russian border.

In response to a Russian air attack targeting Kyiv, Ukraine’s air defence units were activated, with the mayor urging residents to seek shelter. Ukrainian forces launched strikes on a military explosives manufacturer in Russian territory and storage infrastructure at a military airfield. Russian air defence units claimed to have shot down 110 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory.

Street-to-street battles were reported between Russian forces and Ukrainian troops in Selydove, located southeast of Donetsk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s continuous strikes on Ukrainian cities, calling it deliberate terror against the Ukrainian people. Zelenskyy also accused North Korea of becoming more involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine by sending equipment and soldiers, calling for a strong reaction from international partners.

Reportedly, North Korea has deployed special forces troops to Russia for training, with potential plans for thousands of troops to join the war effort. The involvement of North Korean regular troops in the conflict would represent a significant escalation. International leaders, including the US defence secretary and Nato chief, expressed concern over the reports of North Korean involvement in the conflict.
