Young people in countries such as France, the Netherlands, and Greece have been facing increasing difficulties with rising rent costs over the past year. A recent study found that 6.3% of EU citizens have been unable to cover their rent expenses, with Greece having the highest rate of struggling individuals at 17.7%. The age group most affected by this financial burden is 16 to 29-year-olds, accounting for nearly 15% of all EU citizens who have been unable to pay their rent.
The Eurostat dataset also revealed that 4.9% of people in the EU have experienced housing difficulties at some point in their lives, requiring them to stay in temporary accommodation. The situation is particularly dire for young people in countries like France, Greece, and the Netherlands, where a significant percentage of individuals in this age group are unable to afford their rent.
The data excludes individuals at risk of poverty or social exclusion, indicating that the actual number of people struggling to pay their rent could be even higher. This trend highlights the ongoing challenges faced by young people in Europe when it comes to accessing affordable housing.
