The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has announced upcoming service changes on several train lines, including Orange, Red, Green, Franklin, Fitchburg, and Lowell. These changes are part of the Track Improvement Program aimed at replacing tracks, removing speed restrictions, and upgrading station amenities.
The Orange Line will suspend service between Oak Grove and North Station from October 26 to November 1, with shuttle buses available. The Red Line will experience disruptions between Broadway and North Quincy, Broadway and Ashmont, and Harvard and Broadway on various dates in November. Green Line service will be affected between Riverside and Kenmore, as well as Union Square and Lechmere, with shuttle buses replacing trains on certain dates in November.
Commuter rail lines, including the Franklin, Fitchburg, and Lowell lines, will also see service suspensions and shuttle bus replacements on various dates in November. The MBTA assures riders that these temporary service changes are necessary for long-term improvements to provide more reliable, timely, and safe transit options.
The MBTA acknowledges the inconvenience these disruptions may cause passengers but emphasizes the importance of the maintenance work to enhance the overall commuter experience. Please plan accordingly and use alternative transportation options during these service interruptions.
