One Direction singer Liam Payne tragically passed away last week in Buenos Aires after a fatal fall from a balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel. The 31-year-old singer had a toxic mixture of drugs in his system at the time of his death, leading to massive internal and external injuries. As further investigations take place, Payne’s body will remain in Argentina, causing his father, Geoff Payne, to face up to a ten-day wait to bring his son home to the UK. Geoff has vowed to stay by Liam’s side until he can take him back.
Geoff had to formally identify Liam’s body at the morgue and visited the hotel where his son died to thank fans for their tributes. The Argentine Ministry of Justice is continuing investigations into the singer’s death, and officials have all the footage from Payne’s stay, including lists of guests and employees. A preliminary autopsy report revealed that Liam died from multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding caused by the fall. Toxicology screening found a mixture of drugs, including pink cocaine, benzodiazepine, crack, and cocaine in his system.
Witnesses reported that Payne was acting erratically before his death, prompting a call to the police by the hotel manager. A makeshift aluminum pipe for ingesting the substances was found near Liam’s body. Geoff Payne is said to be heartbroken by the situation and finding the uncertainty of the investigations challenging.
