Several antisemitic stickers were found in the Coolidge Corner area of Brookline over the weekend, featuring a blue swastika with the words “STOP FUNDING ISRAELI TERRORISM” surrounding it. The Brookline Police Department received a call about the stickers on October 19, which were placed on the upper part of Harvard Street. These stickers were similar to ones found in Harvard Square and were mainly affixed to light poles and street signs, with several on the window of a private business. A total of 15 stickers were found on public property and three on private property.
The stickers were removed by public works staff and the business workers, and taken as evidence by the police. Brookline Select Board Chairperson Bernard Greene condemned the stickers, stating that they bring up painful memories of antisemitism and are intended to intimidate and harass the Jewish community. Greene emphasized that Brookline has been a welcoming community for the Jewish population for over a century, and that these actions also target other religious groups and those who stand against hate.
Residents were encouraged to report any vandalism or hateful messages in Brookline to BrookONline, and provide information about the antisemitic stickers to the Brookline Police Department for investigation. The police are currently looking into the incident and working to address the situation in the community.
