Vigil in Jamaica Plain commemorates man who lost his life to MBTA bus

Ken Inghram spoke at a vigil held next to the Forest Hills MBTA station in remembrance of his brother, Glenn Inghram, who was tragically killed by an MBTA bus while crossing the street. Glenn’s death has sparked outrage and advocacy for safety measures on Hyde Park Avenue to protect pedestrians. Advocates launched a petition that garnered 695 signatures from Jamaica Plain residents demanding immediate action on road safety improvements.

The Forest Hills Neighborhood Association organized the vigil to honor Glenn and call for change in the community. Benjamin Siegel, a resident and member of the association, emphasized the need for urgent safety measures and highlighted delays in the Hyde Park Avenue Multimodal Corridor Project, which was put on hold multiple times. City Councilor Benjamin Weber also attended the vigil and supported the community’s calls for action.

Following the vigil, the residents received a response from Boston Chief of Streets, Transportation, and Sanitation Jascha Franklin-Hodge, who promised immediate safety improvements, including the implementation of a pedestrian walk signal at the intersection where Glenn was killed. The community’s demands for changes to bus routes and driver visibility around the Forest Hills station were also addressed, with plans to collaborate with the MBTA on safety measures.

Amidst calls for accountability, the MBTA expressed condolences to the Inghram family and assured cooperation with the investigation. The vigil ended with a moment of silence to honor Glenn as community members laid candles and flowers at the site of the tragic accident. Residents continue to push for safer streets in Jamaica Plain to prevent further loss of life.
