Longtime Massachusetts State Representative Susan Williams Gifford passed away on Tuesday after battling cancer, her office confirmed. Gifford, 64, had served as the representative for the 2nd Plymouth District since 2003 and was recently the House Minority Whip. Former Governor Charlie Baker praised her as an incredible advocate and expressed gratitude for her service. Gifford had played key roles in various committees and had helped deliver the state’s first tax cuts in two decades. The Massachusetts House Republican Caucus also mourned her loss, highlighting her dedication to putting people first. Governor Maura Healey commended Gifford’s commitment to her constituents, while also acknowledging her leadership in local politics. Gifford, who lived in Wareham with her husband and dog, had previously served as a Wareham Selectwoman. Her passing marks a significant loss for the community she served.
