Argentinian police raided the Buenos Aires hotel where ex-One Direction singer Liam Payne stayed before his death last week after falling from a balcony. They seized items like computer hard drives and hotel camera footage. The autopsy revealed that Payne died from injuries and bleeding caused by the fall. Initial investigations suggest that he was alone and under the influence of substances, with cocaine found in his system.
Fans have created a shrine outside the hotel to pay their respects to Payne. His family, including his father Geoff Payne, are arranging to bring his body back home. Payne’s family and former bandmates have expressed their devastation over his loss, as have artists and celebrities worldwide.
One Direction announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016, leading Payne and his bandmates to pursue solo careers. Payne had posted on his Snapchat account about traveling to Argentina to attend a concert by Niall Horan, another former bandmate. He shared videos with his girlfriend, American influencer Kate Cassidy, at the concert. Cassidy left Argentina after the show, but Payne stayed behind.
The official toxicology report is yet to be released, but the preliminary results confirm the presence of cocaine in Payne’s system. Efforts are ongoing to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident that led to his untimely death.
