Brookline police are currently investigating the appearance of stickers with swastikas in the Coolidge Corner area over the weekend. The department received a report of antisemitic stickers on upper Harvard Street, with most of them found on public property like light poles and street signs. The stickers were in the shape of an Israeli flag with a swastika replacing the Star of David, along with the message “Stop funding Israeli terrorism.”
State Representative Tommy Vitolo condemned the stickers, noting that they were found near synagogues and Jewish institutions. He emphasized that acts of hate have no place in Brookline and urged unity against bigotry. Brookline Select Board chair Bernard Greene expressed similar sentiments, calling the use of swastikas a form of intimidation against the Jewish community in the area.
Greene assured that the town would swiftly remove the stickers and ensure the safety of the community, emphasizing that Brookline stands against hate and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. Anyone with information about the stickers is encouraged to contact Brookline police.
Similar stickers were found in Cambridge’s Harvard Square the previous week, indicating a disturbing trend of antisemitism in the area. In response, local officials and residents are uniting against hate speech and standing up for inclusivity in the community.
