Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, along with his wife Gwen and son Gus, made a visit to a polling place in St. Paul to cast their early ballots. It was Gus’ first time voting as he had just turned 18. The moment was marked by cheers as Gus fed his ballot into the machine, with the room erupting in celebration for the first-time voter. Walz expressed his excitement about the election, calling it an opportunity to move forward from the chaos of the Trump administration.
Walz also praised retired Gen. John Kelly for speaking out about Trump’s actions and behavior, stating that the election was about the control Trump sought over various institutions. The governor refrained from commenting on reports of Russian disinformation targeting him but emphasized the ties between Trump and Putin, with both leaders supporting each other’s reelection.
Minnesota began early in-person voting in September, but Walz has been focused on the campaign trail since being selected as Kamala Harris’ running mate. This was not the first time Walz and his family voted early, as they had also done so in 2022 with their daughter Hope, who now resides in Montana. Walz’s commitment to voting and encouraging others to do the same highlights the importance of the upcoming election for the Democratic ticket.
